Get ready for the grand finale of Green Beverly’s Autumn Earth Days: THE GREAT PUMPKIN SMASH 🎃 This year is our fifth, and it will be our finest. Registration is mandatory, so you might as well REGISTER NOW. Not only is string pulling back, but we’ve got even more games – both within and outside the Pumpkin Destruction Zone. Toe-tap to our new band, Call Me Darling, as you enjoy a cold beverage and local food, and jump start your holiday shopping with vendors from our community. PLEASE NOTE that farmstands and nurseries that usually supplement our pumpkin supply have alerted us to a pumpkin shortage. BRING YOUR LEFTOVER HALLOWEEN PUMPKINS EARLY to the collection bin near the farm (Trustees Community Garden 799 Cabot Street) starting Saturday Nov 1, or to your local elementary school Monday-Wednesday. Day-of collection is still an option, but due to size requirements we cannot guarantee you’ll be able to fling your own pumpkin. Collection bins will be placed at parking lots. 📰Starting November 1, 2025, a new reduced electric delivery rate will be available for qualified residential customers who use heat pumps for home heating. This seasonal rate applies to electricity usage from November 1 through April 30, helping reduce energy costs during colder months. Please go to National Grid’s page to learn all about it! Few details: If your Heat Pump was installed in your home with the support of a Mass Save® program in 2019 or later, and you’re on a residential electric rate, you may be automatically enrolled in this reduced rate. If you don’t receive an auto-enrollment confirmation from National Grid and believe you should qualify, National Grid made it easy to sign up. Please see their heat pump enrollment page for the application form and more details.

Quick wins to get you started: Start with fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, and eggshells Add brown materials like dry leaves, cardboard, and newspaper to balance greens Keep a countertop bin with a lid to collect kitchen scraps easily Turn your pile weekly to speed decomposition and prevent odors Keep it moist like a wrung-out sponge—not too wet, not too dry Avoid meat, dairy, oils, and pet waste (they attract pests) Property owners: explore backyard bins, tumblers, or municipal pickup programs

Reach out about the following roles at info@greenbeverly.org: Energy Companion for Single Family and Multifamily owners (part-time position): Green Beverly is looking for an energy efficiency/building system-minded person to assist with our newest grant! GB will be reaching out to certain demographics of Beverly residents to help them through the process of weatherizing their property and potentially planning for and/or installing heat pumps. The ideal candidate would be able to potentially be present during a Mass Save assessment at a resident's home, offer advice to the owner during or after the assessment, walk alongside them through the process, assisting as the resident needed - essentially being an "Energy Companion" to help a resident through the process. Building systems knowledge that will be helpful: Construction knowledge about weatherization/insulating; heat pump/ductless mini split knowledge; and/or Mass Save experience. We expect this to be a part-time position with hours and schedule depending on the number of residents looking for this service, but additional hours could be available if the candidate is interested in helping with the overall project management of the program, such as outreach/calling landlords.
