Wild Edibles Walk & Talk with Russ Cohen

  • 193 Lynn Street Peabody, MA, 01960 United States (map)

The North Shore is home to over 80 species of edible wild plants, some of which are more nutritious and/or flavorful than their cultivated counterparts. These include native species, like Beach Plum and Black Raspberry; non-native weeds, like Chicory and Burdock; and invasive species, like Black Locust and Japanese Knotweed. Join Russ Cohen, author of the book Wild Plants I Have Known…and Eaten, for a 2-hour late-afternoon ramble through Newhall Fields Community Farm to learn about at least 18 species of edible wild plants. Keys to the identification of each species will be provided, along with info on edible portion(s), season(s) of availability and preparation methods, as well as guidelines for safe, ethical and environmentally-responsible foraging. Note: Event is $20 suggested donation, or sliding scale pricing. See flyer for details.
