ELECTRICITY
Green Actions
Electricity. We can’t live without it! But how can we live better with it?
There are many ways to reduce our electricity use (and save $$ too). Some are simple daily habits and others require us to upgrade our homes.
START with this short-list of Electricity Actions
Sign up if eligible: “You May Qualify for Discount Electric Rates and More”
Be intentional about where you buy your electricity: See “Cheaper and Cleaner Electricity Options in Beverly” for your electric supplier options.
Unplug equipment that drains energy when not in use (i.e. cell phone chargers, fans, coffeemakers, desktop printers, radios, cable box, etc.).
When it’s time to replace appliances, ENERGY STAR labeled products can cut your energy bills by up to 30%. Find retailers near you on the ENERGY STAR website
Property owners, make and store your own electricity: See our “GREENER POWER : Solar and More” section for information about solar and our local solar providers. And talk to a Green Beverly coach about the possibility of putting solar on your roof
Sign up for community solar (there are many options, contact a coach if you have questions)
Use solar and/or motion lights instead of keeping wired outdoor lights on all night
On hot days: close drapes/blinds
In the summer: open windows on cooler days or overnight (don’t leave central air on automatically)
