Beverly Plant Swap 2025
Come and join us for Beverly's third annual plant swap at Obear Park on Sunday 18 May. This event is aimed at both experienced gardeners and those who are just getting started. Its mission is to create a vibrant, connected community in Beverly with more (native) flowers, fruit, and vegetables in all of our backyards.
How the swap works:
1. Bring healthy, pest free plants to contribute - these can be seedlings, perennials that youve dug up and divided from your garden, house plants, and so on. Don't worry if you don't have anything. Come and start your garden adventure with us!
2. Label each plant. We find cut up yogurt pots work well as free lables.
3. Have fun! You don't need a plant to participate. Enjoy coffee from Beantrust, talk to gardening & sustainability experts (Green Beverly and Plant Magic), and hang with your Beverly neighbors!
Extra details:
- event starts at 9am. First 30 minutes are drop-off only so that we can organize the plants and give people time to connect over coffee
- event is rain or shine as the swap is held under the pavillion at Obear
- free coffee from the awesome Beantrust Coffee Bar will be served for those who want it; please consider bringing a reusable cup, though we will have compostable ones and a compost bag available
Planning to join? If you’re on Facebook, indicate your interest on our event page!

Pollinator Kit Giveaway
Free kits to help you start your own native pollinator garden!
We’re giving away 200 pollinator garden kits — each with four native plants and a snazzy yard sign to show your support the Beverly Pollinator Project. Perfect for beginner gardeners or anyone with a spare sunny patch.
Any kits we have left will be distributed the following day (May 18) at the Beverly Plant Swap.

Soil Culture
Soil Culture is a creative project that scrutinizes soil degradation within the capitalist infrastructure of consumption and production, where soil is exploited without redress. The project traces remnants of these extractive cycles, which result in the accumulation of trash, polluted debris, and wasted materials in landfills. Utilizing art as a catalyst, Soil Culture aims to make visible what is often invisible, fostering embodied understandings of the environmental and social impacts of soil.
Located on a landfill in Essex County, Massachusetts, Soil Culture merges ecological thinking with first-hand immersive experiences to deepen understanding and inspire action towards an aesthetic view of soil. Through collaborative and non-hierarchical methods, Soil Culture is dedicated to fostering critical dialogue and empowering communities through the exploration of soil as a vital, dynamic entity intertwined with human culture and ecological systems.
Soil Culture learns from the unceded ancestral land of the NaumKeag and Pawtucket bands of the Massachusett Tribe who have lived here for thousands of years. We recognize the interconnectedness of all beings and the deep loss that colonization and environmental degradation have caused. Soil Culture fosters a deep understanding and respect for soil and the land with its histories, to work towards a more livable future where all beings can thrive.

Invasive Plant Pulling with the Invasive Plant Task Force
Saturday and Sundays through to March 15/16th. After that we will reassess.
SATURDAY:
time: 10am-11:30am
leaders: George, Bekah, and Tim
SUNDAY:
time: 11am-12:30pm
leaders: Cheryl and Joy
Locations for both pulls: JC Philips property, 779 Cabot Street, via the Community Garden parking lot
Parking at the community garden, back of parking lot. We will walk in together from there.
NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE TRAINED TO ATTEND. Please just come and you will be trained by the Pull Leaders as you work.
Few other business items:
Please sign the google waiver. If you get to the event and you have not - we will have a paper waiver to sign - but we prefer the google waiver if you can! Thanks.
Arrival routine: You will sign in with name and email in the parking lot. Make sure that you have submitted a waiver. We are doing this so that we can just keep track of volunteer hours and for liability reasons so we know who was working when. Additionally we are going to keep track of the locations that we are working in case the City is wondering where we have been working.
Your leader will meet with you in the parking lot and then head into the woods. So being late may be a bit troublesome ... that being said there are a lot of invasives right next to the parking lot so the group may not be working far into the woods.

Meetup series @ Beantrust Coffeebar
Green Beverly and @beantrustcoffeebar are co-hosting monthly meet ups all year long, every 3rd Sunday from 1 - 3pm. It's among Green Beverly's new Office Hours Series, so whether you have sustainability questions or ideas, seek friendly conversation, or just like coffee... welcome! Enjoy free drip coffee on us while supplies last, or purchase your favorite espresso drink. Find us inside or on the back patio (which is outdoors, so dress for the weather!). We encourage you to walk or bike over as you are able! Special thanks to Erik Modhal @beantrust.community.
