Things to ask/think about for insulation/air sealing:
These are all things that you could be asking your energy specialist before signing up for insulation work. Any no-cost energy assessment would involve verifying these sorts of things, but they are not always communicated to the homeowner.
Is there a chance there is asbestos/vermiculite in my home (that would stop insulation improvements from happening?). Make sure the attic floor boards are lifted up to see what is under them.
Is there a chance there is Knob and tube wiring in my home?
Is the insulation going to cause new moisture problems?
Do you need to cut any additional roof venting?
How will that affect my roof warranty?
What is the recourse if anything happens such as broken walls, siding, roof shingles, etc?
After insulation work is completed, I am entitled to a 3rd party inspection. Who can I contact for a 3rd party inspection?
Are there any issues with my gas burning appliances that would stop insulation work from happening?
Is the insulation you're installing going to meet local building codes?
Are there any home upgrades that I should consider doing BEFORE insulation work is completed?
